Due to Covid 19 we took the position that Del would not be attending the Waiuku Soccer Academy during the periods when it was deemed safe to do so. It turned the academy coaches continued with soccer practise during these times, and I allowed Del to take a break off it. Ofcourse concern has been whether he has been missing out on anything. I doubt that very much, as he seem to also keep himself busy by playing soccer during their breaks at school.
One thing I have noticed about him, is that he is preety much like I was when i was young.Used to listen to the coaches a lot, sometimes I always wonder whether that killed my creativity in my style of play. Coaches normally want players to play in a regimented manner, such that at a young age, once you get into that space of not using your own head on what you can or want to do with the ball, it may take a while to get out of it.
This is where Drury Summer Soccer comes out for me. It preety much like a boozers club, and it gave Del the opportunity to play freely and express himself with the ball, the way he feels like with no one shouting for the ball from him which he would have arduously worked to gain position of.
